Meet the DJ –
When Todd Johnson agreed to spin at a wedding in the basement of a bank back in 1979, he did so for $20 and a beer. Little did he know this gig of switching back and forth between records and 8 track tapes would change the course of his life and lead him to find the passion that drives him to do what he loves every day. He has made it his personal mission to “put the fun back into the nightlife, one bar at a time!”
Todd,
otherwise known as TJ-SPIN, has just entered his 31st
year of the mobile DJ business, and he has more fun with it the
longer he spins. Based out of Lima, Ohio, Todd
And have fun is indeed what his partygoers are almost certainly guaranteed. With a style that TJ-SPIN describes as “on-the-mic bump-you-up”, the experience he creates is one you won’t soon forget. Goodtime DJ’s features a Gametime Package that includes crazy fun games like a 6’ Operation Game, Size 86 Shoe Race and Life-Size Ostrich Races. But perhaps the most popular game is the Deal or No Deal game that emulates the popular game show, complete with a silver briefcase. Todd jokes, “I tell people that Howie has a lot more money than me to give away, but I've got a lot more hair!” With an emphasis on wicked fun contests that give away T-shirts and hats, TJ-SPIN enlists the help of his beautiful Miller Lite and Jägermeister gear-clad “Jägerettes” ladies.
TJ-SPIN’s instruments of choice include all touch-screen computers called ProDJpc units combined with the awesome power of American DJ LED lighting. This incorporates with the effect of his 100 mw lasers to create a show that stuns visually as much as it does musically. He also features a unique Self-DJ unit called a “Tequila Jukebox”, where partiers can actually pick the songs they want to hear and the jukebox will serve up its own mix to keep the music playing through its state-of-the-art sound system.
Playing at weddings is not something Todd takes lightly, as he is extremely humbled every time a family asks him to be a part of their special day. He explains, “I feel honored that the family has trusted me in one of the most important days of their life.” One of the most memorable moments in his 31 years of spinning and entertaining was a wedding where the groom, who was stricken with cancer and had mere weeks left, lived it up as much as possible on his special day. That kind of love of life will remain with TJ-SPIN forever, and as someone who already considers himself the luckiest man in the world for doing a job he loves, Todd is proud that he was a part of that extraordinary groom’s life.
For someone who is lucky enough to declare “I party for a living”, TJ-SPIN truly feels he holds the greatest job in the world. The American dream is to go to work every day loving what you do, and he excitedly declares “I've never hated to go to work. In fact, I can't WAIT to get there!” Fellow DJ’s can understand the emotion, for there is no greater feeling in the world than creating a fun atmosphere where people want to be.
